Prevalence of Chronic Disease
Statistics on the health of our nation are alarming. Many of us consume too many foods with little or no nutrition, get little or no physical activity or planned exercise, and lead fast-paced, stressful lives that wreck havoc on our health. Risk for chronic diseases can be significantly reduced by the lifestyle choices we make.

Alarming Statistics
  • HEART DISEASE is the leading cause of death in the U.S., killing over 370,000 Americans a year. It accounts for 1 in 7 deaths in the U.S. It is the number 1 killer of women, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined. (1)
  • In 2018, an estimated 1.7 million new cases of CANCER will be diagnosed in the U.S. (2)
  • An estimated 29.1 million people in the U.S. have DIABETES; Of these, 8.1 million cases are undiagnosed. (3)
  • A whopping 36.5% of the U.S. adult population has OBESITY. The prevalence was highest among non-Hispanic blacks (48.1%), followed by Hispanics (42.5%), then non-Hispanic whites (34.5%) and non-Hispanic Asians (11.7%) (4)
What if we, as Christians, made OUR health a priority? Would people in our community notice? Isn't this one way we can live missionary in our city? With good health, we are better equipped to serve God, and we are more likely to realize an abundant life!
