Cardiometabolic Syndrome (CMS)

Get your "numbers" in check while loving the food you eat!
Cardiometabolic Syndrome (CMS) is a clustering of several conditions that affect the heart (cardio), and metabolism (metabolic) - the way your body processes the foods you eat. Conditions of CMS include some of the following:
  • Elevated LDL or "bad" cholesterol
  • Decreased HDL or "good" cholesterol
  • Elevated triglycerides
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Prediabetes/diabetes
  • Increased waist circumference (apple shape)
  • Elevated markers of inflammation such as CRP

The lifestyle choices you make significantly contribute to CMS. Lifestyle includes things like the food you eat, whether or not you are physically active or have planned exercise, whether or not you use tobacco products, and how you handle the stresses of day-to-day living as well as crisis situations.

What you eat matters, and it's important to eat foods that collectively improve the conditions listed above. You also need to be able to plan and prepare meals that provide adequate nutrition.
By this I mean that it's important to get the right amount of key nutrients so you won't have deficiencies and conditions that can result from those deficiencies. Are you getting enough calcium or iron? What about the many B vitamins? Are you consuming enough protein foods - or possibly taking in too much?

When we work together to develop a meal plan for cardiometabolic syndrome you can be sure you will have a balanced plan that also addresses your total nutritional needs.

"I came to Kim with very specific goals. I was overweight with high cholesterol and triglycerides for which medication was not being successful in controlling their levels. I wanted to permanently lose weight slowly while transitioning to a healthy diet that I could follow for life, all the while lowering my cholesterol and triglycerides to safe levels. Kim has been instrumental in educating me on the essentials of good nutrition and health. She has been great at meeting me where I am, not following a “one size fits all” approach to nutrition. While I, personally, have chosen to adopt a primarily vegan diet, Kim helped me to reach that decision without pushing for a single, specific solution. Leaving her care, I feel confident that I have established a dietary practice that I can follow, and modify if necessary, to reach my goals!" ~ Murray H.
